School Lunch Program in Haiti
of the many challenges parents face throughout the Thomassique area is putting food on the table for their families. Parents
make difficult decisions, including whether to send their children to school, or have them stay home to work in the family
When they do send their children to school, it's common for them to walk a few hours to reach school each day, and often they
are sent on an empty stomach.
Our School Lunch Program at St. Joseph Clinic puts a dent in this dilemma. Since
2009, we have been distributing meals supplied by Feed My Starving Children (FMSC) to thousands of children each year. This year there are six schools in the Thomassique area included in the School Lunch Program.
Medical Missionaries receives hand-packed MannaPackRice
from FMSC which is then distributed to the local schools. The schools cook and disbribute lunches to their students.
The MannaPackRice is an easy to prepare food
blend consisting of:
- Rice, the most widely accepted
grain around the world
- Extruded soy nuggets, providing
maximum protein at lowest cost
- Vitamins, minerals, and
a vegetarian flavoring to give growing children the critical nutritional elements they need
- Dehydrated vegetables for flavor and nutrition
These lunches are critically important as it is these children's most
nutritional meal of the day, if not their only one. We give thanks to Feed My Starving Children for their renewed support!
